CSUF Startup Incubator Resident Launches!

Harvey Kong Launches Goodfetch with help of CSUF Startup Incubator

Harvey Kong, left, launched insurance comparison shopping site Goodfetch with the help of the CSUF Startup Incubator

There is some exciting news in this week’s edition of the CSUF Entrepreneurship Insider! One of our Residents from the CSUF Startup Incubator has launched his business and we hosted the Semifinals of the CSUF Business Plan Competition last week. Read about that and all of our events and more.

Shopping for insurance can be a painful process but CSUF Startup Incubator Resident Harvey Kong has leveraged his vast experience in this industry to come up with a better way to shop for car and home insurance. Called Goodfetch, Harvey has created an online platform that drastically simplifies this painstaking process by utilizing an easy to use interface that enables shoppers to focus on only the best deals in his large, and growing, network of insurance providers.

In CSUF Startup Incubator Resident Launches Insurance Comparison Shopping Platform we had a discussion with Harvey about what his mission with Goodfetch is and how the CSUF Startup Incubator helped him get to launch. It all started on the first day of his Residency when we sat down with him and his Startup Coach to develop a custom road map that has helped him get from concept to launch. It is an exciting thing getting to see an entrepreneur we worked with launch his business and that excitement will only continue grow as Harvey’s startup gains traction with consumers!

Speaking of excitement, the CSUF Business Plan Competition Semifinals were last Friday. Our panel of judges listened to nineteen different CSUF student-entrepreneur concepts and they were all fantastic. A couple of the concepts presented will be recognizable to you but most of them were new to us and while they all cannot advance to the Finals I hope that they all work on launching their concepts. We will be posting an update later this week on the five concepts that will be advancing to the Finals on April 14. So stay tuned!

Sincerely,

John Bradley Jackson

CSUF Consulting Teams Profiled in OC Register

The OC Register recently published an article about our excellent CSUF Consulting teams! Here’s an excerpt:

CSUF Center for Entrepreneurship Director John Bradley Jackson’s marketing consulting team took third place in the Undergraduate Specialized portion of the competition. That team conducted an intensive review of its client’s current marketing efforts and created a strategic plan on how to achieve the goals as set out by the client. The team consisted of Stacy Goldstein, Emma Osman, Johnathon Veta, Andrew Goclowski, Tristan Schmitt and Jenny Frolova. Curtis Chan, founder of Chan & Associates and Cognitive Impact, was their mentor.

“Collaboration was the key to this project. Our client was the Fullerton College Foundation and they were open to the students working with them to develop an in-depth marketing strategy plan for them to increase the volume of donations coming in. On our end, the team worked very hard and I am proud of their report and the fact that they did so well in the competition,” Jackson said.

Including these two teams, the CSUF Consulting program has finished in the Top 10 of the SBI national competition 31 times.

Congratulations again to Dr. Lorenzo Bizzi’s and Center for Entrepreneurship Director John Bradley Jackson’s CSUF Consulting teams for doing such tremendous work!

CSUF Startup Incubator Resident Launches Insurance Comparison Shopping Platform

Harvey Kong Launches Goodfetch with help of CSUF Startup Incubator

Harvey Kong, left, launched insurance comparison shopping site Goodfetch with the help of the CSUF Startup Incubator

When it comes to anything insurance related, just the thought of it can stress almost anyone out. Lets face it, while the simple signing on the dotted line is easy, “shopping” for the right insurance can often be very difficult and sometimes overwhelming. But don’t sweat it – entrepreneur Harvey Kong has come up with a new alternative that will change the way we shop for insurance.

Last year, Harvey joined the CSUF Startup Incubator as a resident to help him launch his business. At the start of his time at the CSUF Startup Incubator, he sat down with staff and his startup coach to develop a custom roadmap for his launch that would position his business for success. After frequent meetings with his advisors, he was able to develop and enact a startup plan that he still uses today even though he has graduated from the CSUF Startup Incubator.

Harvey has fine-tuned his concept to launch Goodfetch, an online platform that compares home and auto insurance quotes for the consumer at just the click of a mouse. According Harvey, “Goodfetch addresses the pertinent issue of shopping [for insurance], not merely buying. Buying insurance is easy, but shopping for it remains too tedious a process.” Similar to websites such as Kayak.com, which compares airfare and hotel rates, Goodfetch provides comparisons of home and auto insurance quotes “from a wide selection of insurance companies.”

This is how it works: The consumer submits a single form online to request insurance quotes. Then insurance companies or their agents input their quotes based on information submitted. Based on the consumer’s preference and insurance companies’ competitiveness, Goodfetch’s proprietary algorithm lists a few quotes for the consumer in a side-by-side format for easy comparison. The consumer and the agent will be connected only if the consumer is interested in buying.

Harvey’s inspiration for developing Goodfeth came from his 25 years of experience as an insurance agent, where he noticed that “Consumers don’t shop for auto/home insurance because it’s one of the worst shopping experience. I want to make it easy for the consumer to compare insurance quotes, and at the same time, also enable the agent to run his business more efficiently, without hard selling tactics.”

Even though this company is new we see a lot of potential in it. If all goes according to plan, Goodfetch will change how consumers shop for insurance. If you wish to find out which insurance company offers you the best deal, why not start a search at Goodfetch? It can save you time and a lot of money.
