Beta Alpha Psi is an honorary organization for financial information students and this semester they will be participating in multiple events including the Heart Walk, Book Doctor and Women Helping Women.
“Students often become overwhelmed with school and their daily life hassles, so it is important to have a network of friends to relate to and lean on,” says Ashleigh Myers, community involvement chair for Beta Alpha Psi. “Not only does our organization equip students with necessary skills through our events and workshops … we also give students exposure to the companies they hope to work for in the future.”
Beta Alpha Psi recently volunteered at the Orange County Food Bank, where they worked side by side in a fast-paced assembly line packing more than 600 boxes in just two hours. Beta Alpha Psi has raised more than $1,000 for the American Heart Association, and in March, they will be working with The American Heart Association’s Heart Walk to help raise funds and awareness to end cardiovascular disease and stroke.
Student clubs and organizations from Mihaylo College are busy at work this semester planning and participating in a great deal of community service projects. Getting involved in a Mihaylo College club or organization gives students the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills and their résumés. By donating just a small amount of their time, students have the chance to make a big impact in our community. When volunteering, students build awareness of the hardships individuals face in our society on a daily basis.
“Students really benefit from volunteering,” says Myers. “They are able to use and strengthen skills like leadership, effective communication and teamwork. “
Pi Sigma Epsilon is a national professional fraternity, the membership is currently working on three community service projects. They have been taking donations of used jeans for Teens for Jeans since the beginning of the semester. Donations ran until Feb. 27. PSE also sent about 45 of their members to the Brea 8K, an annual community event supporting the students of Brea Olinda High School. The fraternity will also be sending a number of volunteers to help out in the annual First Flight outreach event at the Honda Center.
The American Marketing Association is a professional association for individuals and organizations involved in the practice, teaching and study of marketing worldwide. They were the first business organization on the CSUF campus, and they continue to set the standard for other business organizations to follow. They will be participating in a beach cleanup on Saturday, March 8, at Huntington State Beach, which is hosted by the Huntington Beach Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit environmental organization. AMA is also pairing up with the Orange County Ronald McDonald House for the second semester in a row to help bake treats for families in need. Their last event for the semester is the Donate Life Run/Walk 5K. Their goal is to organize a team of 20 participants to volunteer and raise $500 for the cause.
“My favorite community service event has been volunteering at the Ronald McDonald house with members from the American Marketing Association,” says Shastina Sarkhosh, president of the American Market Association. “It is incredible how a warm meal and a friendly smile can really make someone’s day.”
Sarkhosh says it is important to get involved in volunteer work at an early age because it instills a degree of selflessness that can bring balance into an individual’s life.
Getting involved on campus can provide a myriad of benefits. There are networking opportunities, chances to improve leadership skills and multiple community service events. You can find a list of all the Mihaylo clubs and organizations here.
