The Clouds Begin to Lift According to the 2014 Mihaylo Economic Forecast

A crowd of 900 people gathered at the Hyatt Regency in Irvine last Friday to get an analysis of where the economy may be headed in the coming year.

Anil Puri, dean of Mihaylo College of Business and Economics, and Mira Farka, associate professor of economics at CSUF, delivered their projections at the 19th annual Economic Forecast Conference.

Puri is optimistic about where the country stands. “The economy is in a holding pattern right now,” he said, and added that he expects slow but steady growth in 2014 and quicker growth in 2015.

The forecast also addressed Orange County’s unemployment rate, housing market, job growth and the banking sector.

Cal State Fullerton alumni also made presentations at the conference: Richard K. Davis ’83 (economics), chairman and CEO of U.S. Bancorp, presented his observations and predictions and shared his outlook on America’s banks; and Lucy Dunn ’76 (political science), president and CEO of the Orange County Business Council, believes that Orange County “will lead the state and the country in economic recovery.”
