If you’re interested in a career in the insurance industry, or if you’d just like the opportunity to expand your networking circle, Mihaylo College will host Insurance Day on Oct. 10, which includes a series of events for all interested students.
The day’s activities will take place in the Mihaylo Hall courtyard, and include an opportunity to meet human resources managers and representatives from some of the biggest companies in the area. It will also feature CEO keynote speakers and insurance industry-related symposiums. In addition, students are encouraged to take part in mock interviews with industry professionals; there are roughly 15 appointments available, which may be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.
If you plan to attend Insurance Day, here are a few tips to help make the day more successful:
First, be sure to bring an up-to-date and properly formatted resume. You want to underscore your professionalism when meeting company representatives.
Dress for success! Yes, the saying is tired, but it’s definitely true. If you want to be taken seriously by human resources managers and potential future employers, dress professionally. If you’re looking to job hunt or just network, attire including suits, ties and conservative-length skirts are the way to go. Leave those comfy flip-flops and T-shirts at home.
If you have a specific career path within the insurance field in mind, research the companies attending the event . Informed conversations and good in-depth questions are just as important as your appearance in order to make a good first impression.
Last but not least: participate! Showing up is the first step to making valuable connections. Networking, no matter what your concentration may be, can never hurt you. Showing up and meeting the representatives for each company will give you another opportunity to establish a potentially valuable professional relationship.
Participating companies for this year’s Insurance Day include United States Liability Insurance Group (USLI), AIG, Pacific Life, AAA Insurance, Mercury Insurance Group and Travelers among others.
