Golfers Tee Off To Benefit Business Students At Mihaylo

Golfers from Wood Gutmann & Bogart Insurance Brokers take a break during the 2012 Golf Classic.

Picture a beautiful, sunny day in late June. There is a breeze from the ocean as you prepare to tee off with coworkers or clients, and the smell of the fresh-cut grass fills the air.

This may sound like a vacation, but on Monday, June 24, this scenario will be paired with Cal State Fullerton’s Mihaylo College of Business and Economics for an amazing cause.

Mihaylo College presents the 19th annual Golf Classic. The event aims to raise money, via golfers and sponsors, in order to provide scholarships and classroom technology for the highest achieving students in Mihaylo College, the honors students.

Businesses and individuals who are interested should know that 100% of the proceeds from the Golf Classic go directly to the funding of the honors students and their educational needs.

The Golf Classic provides a wonderful opportunity to support the business college students of Cal State Fullerton who will soon be joining Orange County’s business world. It also gives business leaders a chance to spend a day outside of the office to network, entertain clients and have a little friendly competition on the golf course.

The event will be held at Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Coast and is expected to run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a banquet to end the day, which will feature raffles, awards and an auction.

The primary sponsors for the 19th annual Golf Classic include Helpmates Staffing Services, Crexendo, Southern California Lubricants LLC, Pacific Premier, R.D. Olson Constructions, White Nelson Diehl Evans LLP and Wood Gutmann & Bogart Insurance Brokers among others.

The planning committee is just as diverse as the sponsors. The tournament chair is Dennis Ciolli ‘76 (vice president of human resources, Goodwill Southern California), Jim Gutmann (partner, Wood Gutmann & Bogart Insurance Brokers), Anil Puri (dean, Mihaylo College of Business and Economics), Richard Becktel ‘77 (president, Southern Counties Lubricants LLC), Dave Vediner ‘78 (partner, White Nelson Diehl Evans LLP) and Joe Cervantes (senior executive vice president, Operations for R.D. Olson Construction). Additional committee members include Amoco’s Bob Hoertz and Lesley Nolen of Tax & Financial Group.

The turnout in the past 18 years has been nothing short of amazing, as golfers have helped fund more than $700,000 in scholarships and essential classroom technology that ensures students at Mihaylo receive the superior education they need to be exceptional future employees.
